Commentary
And when the clarification of His reality, glorified and exalted is He, was completed, and that He is not composed at all, and He clarified, glorified and exalted is He, by His self-sufficiency that necessitates His oneness, that all is dependent upon Him and in need of Him. He is the giver of existence to all existents and the bestower of generosity upon all essences. He does not resemble anything, nor does anything resemble Him, and there is no counterpart to Him in any of that. It may have been that someone, in their delusion, thought that something else could arise from Him, which would be part of the completeness of His sovereignty expressed by His power. He clarified that this is impossible due to its necessitating need, which has no relation to power, for power does not pertain to the impossible. This is impossible because He, glorified and exalted is He, is self-sufficient. Thus, that was a clarification of self-sufficiency in both of its meanings. He said without conjunction, indicating the negation of the void, which is one of the meanings of 'self-sufficient', revealing to the wise that nothing of a kind can arise from Him, nor a genus born from Him, nor anything else that can be compared to Him in existence or otherwise. 'He did not beget' means that it is not correct, nor should it be, in any way, for anything to arise from Him even once, so how about what is beyond that? For that would necessitate a void, and He is self-sufficient, having no void. The void is one of the attributes of the soul that necessitates need, and He is self-sufficient by His permanence in His eternity from anyone who could succeed Him or assist Him due to the absence of need and annihilation upon Him. This is a refutation of those who said: 'The angels are the daughters of Allah' or 'Uzayr' or 'the Messiah' or others.
And when He clarified that there is no separation for Him, it became evident that He has no genus. He indicated this by His saying: 'And He was not born' because if something else were to arise from Him, He would also arise from something else, as is known and rationally accepted. He is ancient, having no beginning; rather, He is the First who has not been preceded by non-existence. Birth cannot occur nor be specified except through matter and its relation, and everything that is material or has a relation to matter is generated from something else. Therefore, it is not correct for anything to arise from Him because it is not correct for Him to be generated from something else, for He has no essence and no consideration for His existence except that He is He. His identity is for Himself, and whoever's identity is for himself cannot rightly be generated from something else. For if He were to be generated from something else, He would not be Himself in essence, nor would He be truly self-sufficient, thus negating His very essence. He would have nothing from His essence except non-existence. It has become clear that He is the Necessary Being. He clarified, like the sun, that He is not material because He is not in need in any way. Therefore, it is not correct for anything to arise from Him, for it is not correct for Him to arise from something else. Whoever is like that has no equal, so it is not correct in any way for anything to be equal to Him to be able to take His place in what has been clarified regarding what has been negated in the beginning and the end. This indicated the completion of the explanation of His reality expressed by His saying:
