So when they heard that and became assured, he began recounting what came after it. He said, indicating with the letter 'fa' to the shortness of the time of denial which is the cause of the fright: 'So when the matter was uncovered from Ibrahim, the fright was' meaning the fear and severe terror. 'And the good tidings came to him,' so he was filled with joy. 'He argues with us,' meaning he began to act with us in arguing like the arguer whose words are many, intending to divert his interlocutor from what he is saying: 'about the people of Lut,' meaning he is asking us about their salvation with a question in which he is keen like the arguer in diverting the matter, from arguing which is to divert. He placed the present tense in the place of the past as an indication of the repetition of the argument with the depiction of the situation, meaning he argued with us about them a lot; then he justified his argument by saying: 'Indeed, Ibrahim is forbearing,' meaning he is eloquent in forbearance, which is the delaying of the one who has sinned according to what reason necessitates. 'Oh, how he laments,' meaning he is one who frequently laments out of fear of deficiency. 'Turning back,' meaning he is one who turns back to Allah by being foremost in ascending the ranks of closeness. So, because he has these virtues, he continues to expect the cessation from the sinners.
