Then he pointed to the proximity of their opposition to his command in it by saying, causing it to be due to his orders and prohibitions, and following up: "They hamstrung it," meaning the she-camel. "And he said," meaning: [when] the news reached him, "Enjoy yourselves," meaning: [you] will live "in your abode," meaning: this is your abode, which is the town of Al-Hijr, "for three days," meaning: without any increase beyond that. So look at what your enjoyment and luxury will avail you, even if you strive in it.
And when it was as if it was said: Is there duality in this warning? He responded: "That," meaning the promise of high rank in truthfulness and anger, "is a promise that is not false," meaning: in it; and enjoyment is the delight in the beautiful perceptions of sights, sounds, and other things that are perceived by the senses. The lands are called abodes because they gather their people - just as a house gathers - and they are inhabited therein.
