And when he completed his construction, he commanded him and dismantled their saying. He began to warn them and said, clarifying that turning away from what he brought will only be by treating the sound nature: "So if they turn away" - even the slightest turning away - as indicated by the omission of the 'ta', "then upon you is the blame, not me, for I have done what is upon me." "Indeed," meaning: "because I have conveyed to you what" - meaning: everything (p-313) "I was sent" - meaning: my sending preceded from the One who truly has no sender other than Him. "To you" completely; I did not leave anything of it, hoping for your acceptance and not fearing your rejection. But you refused except to deny me and to be arrogant about what I brought. So the One who sent me will take vengeance upon you and will destroy you. "And my Lord will replace" - meaning: He will bring forth the one who is good to me by establishing me in what pleases Him, "a people other than you" who will succeed you in your homes and your wealth, so you will be His enemies, and those who are replaced will be exposed to being His allies, [while they are strong and powerful] so the harm will be specific to you. "And you will not harm Him" - meaning: Allah - by your turning away "in anything." Then he explained His warning to them by saying, affirming that the disobedient one acts in his disobedience like one who thinks that Allah is unaware of him: "Indeed, my Lord" - meaning: the One who is good to me, the Planner for my interests.

And when the most important thing in this context is to clarify His superiority and ability, He preceded His saying: "Over all things" - small or great, noble or insignificant, "is All-Hearing" - meaning: He is knowledgeable of all things and capable of all things, [and] perfect in preserving it. He knows what the preserved one does and rewards him according to what he deserves of His blessings and punishments. So this is a justification for replacing others and His being free from incurring harm, for preservation means guarding, and it necessitates knowledge and ability. From the ability is the guardian of the eye, meaning: sleep does not overpower him, and the guardian - for protection and anger, and from both together is preservation - for being consistent in something; and turning away from something means going to another direction in disregard of it; and conveying means bringing something to its end; (p-314) and replacement means making the second one a substitute for the first one to take its place; and harm means causing pain by action or causing it.
