Commentary
He said, "O Noah." And he emphasized in denying what had previously been established by saying, "Indeed, he is not of your family," [meaning] the one judged to be saved due to their faith and disbelief. For this reason, it was explained by his saying, "Indeed, it is a deed," meaning: it is a deed [but] he made it the essence of the deed in the reading of the group as an exaggeration in condemning him. This is because the jewels are equal in their existence and do not attain honor except by their effects. So he clarified that there is no good effect in him at all. And it confirms the reading of Ya'qub and Al-Kisai with the action that whoever engages in evil in absolute terms, the innocence from him is required. Especially for the matter, it should not be continued except with permission. And he expressed with 'deed' instead of 'action' to assert that his deeds are based on knowledge. And he emphasized this because it does not pertain to Noah's question, peace be upon him, about this. "Not good" in my knowledge, and I have judged in this matter that I will not save anyone except the one who is characterized by righteousness, and I am knowledgeable of what is in the hearts. And much is hidden from you, so perhaps you think of faith in one who is not a believer due to your building the matter on what we see of his outward appearance. And Al-Rummani reported from Al-Hasan that he used to be a hypocrite by showing faith. And this indicates that the one who is in agreement in religion is the closest, even if he is far in lineage, and the one who is in opposition in it is the farthest, even if he is close in lineage.
And when it became clear from this answer that leaving the question was preferable, he mentioned a general matter that encompasses it, saying, "So do not ask me" meaning: by a type of questioning, "about what you have no knowledge of." For you do not know whether the question is correct in it or not, because the appropriate thing for someone like you among the close ones is to base their matters on verification and to wait for the informing from us. Look at the saying of Moses, peace be upon him, in the hadith of intercession in the authentic narration from Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him: "And indeed, I killed a soul that I was not commanded to kill." And it is known that that soul was a disbeliever from the people of Pharaoh. "Indeed, I advise you" with my admonitions, out of dislike, "that you be" meaning: a being that you take on, "among the ignorant," meaning: among those who act based on conjecture because they have no way to ascertain the realities of matters from us, so you ask like what they ask.
