And when the warned ones were frightened by the Great Day, they were as if they said: What is this Day? So the answer was: The Day they return to Him. And when they perhaps carried the return to merely death and becoming dust, He alerted them that it is not in the meaning they imagine, but in the meaning of their being brought back as they were. He said: ﴿To Allah﴾ meaning the King, who encompasses everything in power and knowledge, alone ﴿is your return﴾ meaning: [Your return, its time, and its place for the purpose of reckoning] not to dust or anything else, [and He is All-Knowing of everything, and from Him is your beginning to take provisions for the Hereafter]. And He made the separation of the verse a judge on the intended meaning, saying: ﴿And He﴾ meaning: alone ﴿is capable of everything﴾ meaning: possible ﴿All-Powerful﴾ meaning: possessing complete power, for they acknowledge His power over things that are greater than the return. [So He is capable of the return as He was capable of the beginning. The verse is from the intertwining: it mentioned the return first as evidence of the beginning second, and the completeness of power second as evidence of the completeness of knowledge first; for they are interconnected].
