And when he finished this statement, which is the purpose of this entire context, although it was an interruption in this story, he returned to complete it. This was to clarify that Noah, peace be upon him, was revealing to his people all that he was commanded, even if it was a great hardship for them. There was never a point of hope for them that he would leave anything of it. He warned everyone who heard their story that what befell them might also befall him. So he said: ﴿And it was revealed﴾, meaning: from the One who has no revealer except Him, and He is the King of kings, ﴿to Noah﴾ after those events, ﴿that none will believe﴾ in what I have brought ﴿from your people except whom﴾. And since the one who answers a person to what he asks for appears to him with signs before the answer, the questioner expects the answer by them. He said: ﴿Certainly, he has believed, so﴾ meaning: it has resulted from your knowledge that their misery has been completed. We say to you: [no] ﴿do not be grieved﴾, meaning: may distress come to you, that is, a severity that becomes great upon you due to your excessive contemplation of its consequences ﴿because of what they﴾ meaning: because of what they were created upon ﴿do﴾. Indeed, we will take for you your right from them soon. And it was as if he informed him that if they did not respond to him, he would drown them, and he would save him and those with him in a ship that carries them upon the surface of the water. So he said: ﴿And construct the ship﴾ while you are being protected ﴿by Our eyes﴾. We protect you from deviating in its construction, and it was gathered in an exaggerated manner for the sake of protection and care in the manner of representation. ﴿And Our revelation﴾, so we inspire you with the best of what can be done in its construction, and you know what we have of greatness that overcomes everything, and nothing is too great for it. So do not concern yourself with the fact that you do not know its craft. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them, that Allah revealed to him to make it like the breast of a bird. And he indicated his compassion for his people and his love for their salvation, as is the case with this noble prophet with his nation. So he said: ﴿And do not address me﴾, meaning: with any kind of address, even if it is little, ﴿concerning those who have wronged﴾, meaning: who have committed injustice and persisted in it, that I should save them. Then he justified the prohibition by saying that the judgment concerning them has been decreed. He said: ﴿Indeed, they are to be drowned﴾. The matter has indeed been decreed concerning that. And to be grieved is sadness in submission, because the essence of distress is poverty and helplessness. And revelation is the conveying of meaning to the soul in secrecy, and it may be understanding without words through gestures and the like, and it may be with subtle speech. And the ship is the vessel, which can be feminine or masculine; its singular and plural are the same. Its origin is management from the act of floating.
