And when He clarified that they are indeed in His grasp, glorified and exalted is He, He increased in explaining His greatness and that His will overcomes every other will. This is in a context indicating that He is, by this, advising them and that His advice is specific to them. He said in response to what they imagined, that His argument with them is words without benefit: ﴿And my advice will not benefit you﴾. He mentioned His will regarding what He intends to mention about the will of Allah, saying: ﴿If I intend﴾ [meaning I combine with the act of advising the will] ﴿to advise you﴾ by informing you of the place of misguidance to be avoided and the guidance to be followed. And its reward is omitted, its estimation being: my advice will not benefit you ﴿if Allah﴾ meaning the One to whom belongs all command ﴿intends to lead you astray﴾, meaning: to misguide you and place you in error. [For indeed, His will, glorified and exalted is He, prevails over my will and actions together.] Nothing will benefit you, indicating that you cannot repel the punishment with strength so that you would be victorious, nor with obedience so that you would be beloved and brought near if Allah intends your destruction by leading you astray. And if I intend your salvation, He did not say: and my advice will not benefit you if I advise you, indicating that I possess nothing except my will to advise you. So if I intend it, the utmost that results from my action is the occurrence of the advice and its sincerity for you. As for the benefit from it, nothing of it is for me; rather, it is contingent upon the will of Allah. If He intends your misguidance, it will certainly occur, and what may result from the advice in the actions of the advised is not in accordance with what is required to attract the benefit of the one seeking to repel harm. Then He encouraged them in His kindness and warned them of His vengeance, justifying the absence of what He does not will: ﴿He is your Lord﴾ meaning the One who created you and manages your affairs, so He acts alone according to what He wills.

And when the estimation was: from Him is your origin, He added to it His saying: ﴿And to Him﴾ meaning: not to anyone else ﴿you will be returned﴾ meaning: with the easiest matter and the least of it, with death and then resurrection, and He will reward you for your deeds as is the custom of kings with their workers.
