And when the proofs became clear and the evidence rose up, drowning them in the depths of the seas, that was the place of denial against those who equate between the guided and the aggressor. How can one be preferred either by considering the view of worldly leadership, in neglect of the realities of matters, or in obstinacy, like those who said from the Jews to the polytheists: 'You are more guided than they.' So He said: 'Is he who is upon clear proof' meaning: a proof and evidence 'from his Lord' by what He has given him of the light of insight and the clarity of mind, so he seeks the Hereafter and builds his actions on a firm foundation 'and follows it' meaning: and adheres to this proof 'a witness' is the Qur'an 'from Him' meaning: from his Lord, or that proof is supported by the message of a messenger, an Arab, with miraculous words. And this witness 'before it' meaning: this witness is supportive of it 'the Book of Musa' meaning: also a witness, which is the Torah, while it is 'an Imam' worthy of being followed 'and a mercy' meaning: for everyone who follows him. And when the answer was apparent, it was omitted, and its estimation - and Allah knows best - is like one who is upon misguidance, seeking the world, so he does deeds of virtue that are not based on a correct foundation, and thus will be in the abode of permanence and happiness as scattered dust. And when this one who is upon the proof is great, and it was not intended by it one in particular, the statement was resumed for the exalted status of him with the tool of gathering as a good news for this noble Prophet regarding the multitude of his nation, so He said: 'Those' meaning: the high in rank because they are upon guidance from their Lord, and their guidance is supported by a witness from before him and a witness from after him, confirming him 'they believe in it' meaning: in this Qur'an which is the witness and they do not attribute the one who brought it to having fabricated it. 'And whoever disbelieves in it' meaning: in this witness 'from the factions' from all the groups and the people of religions equally, equating between the two groups in ignorance or obstinacy 'the Fire is his appointment' meaning: his warning and the place of his warning, he will enter its blazing fire and endure its coldness. And when the warning of the Fire became widespread, the longing of the soul intensified for what was caused by it, so the removal of what it bore from that became imminent, thus the matter necessitated the omission of the noon of 'if you were' and it was said: 'So do not be' meaning: O you addressed, the greatest 'in doubt' meaning: in great doubt [and delusion] 'from it' meaning: from the Qur'an, and let not your chest be constricted from conveying it, or from the promise which is the Fire and disappointment, even if We have favored the one warned with that and indulged him in the world; then He justified the prohibition by saying: 'Indeed, it' the Qur'an 'is the truth' meaning: the complete one, and He increased in encouraging it by saying: 'from your Lord' meaning: the One who has done good to you by sending it down upon you.

And when his existence as truth is a reason by which hope is attached to the faith of everyone who hears it, he said: "But most of the people" meaning those who are in a state of turmoil "do not believe" that it is true, not because doubt can penetrate it, but because of what is on their hearts of rust. They will be subjected to the punishment prepared for them, from whom the words are not changed before Him, nor is injustice attributed to Him. The purpose of this question is to urge towards what the question in His saying: "So are you Muslims?" [Hud: 14] has urged, which is to turn towards the true religion in a clear manner, to expose the foolishness of the minds of the doubters and the weakness of their opinions.
