And when the mercy towards the weak is a sign of good, for this reason the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, said, "O Allah, I ask You for the doing of good deeds, the abandoning of wrongdoings, and the love of the poor." The harshness towards them is a sign of evil. Whoever is miserly with kindness in his words is more miserly with giving of his wealth. He explained that the denier is brought down by his denial to the lowest levels and the worst of attributes that lead to the worst of actions: ﴿And does not urge﴾ meaning he does not encourage himself and his family, nor anyone else, with a great urging that protects and motivates towards the intended goal ﴿to feed the poor﴾ meaning to give to him and to feed him. Rather, he despises him and does not honor him nor have mercy on him. His expression about feeding - which is the intended goal - with the food that is the original, and adding the poor to indicate that he shares with the rich in his wealth to the extent that Allah has ordained for his sufficiency. This implies that a sign of denial [of resurrection] is harming the weak and being negligent with good deeds. The verse contains a connection: the urging in the first indicates the disdain in the second; and the urging in the second indicates a similar thing in the [first].
