And when he explained by the saying of 'the security', it was necessary and transitive. You say: I have become familiar with the place, I am familiar with it by familiarity, so I am familiar, and I have made so-and-so familiar with this thing, meaning I have made it familiar to him. And the coming of something is possible for two things, then replacing one of them with something greater for its significance and higher for its matter. The replacement from it is his saying: ﴿Their security﴾ meaning our security for them. ﴿The journey of winter﴾ which they travel in his time to Yemen because it is a hot land from which they obtain the goods of the south. ﴿And summer﴾ which they travel to the Levant in his time because it is a cold land from which they obtain the benefits of the north. And they are safe from all the Arabs because of their honor with the Sacred Sanctuary, glorified and exalted is He, which is honored and revered by the House of Allah, while people are snatching from around them. So Allah, glorified and exalted is He, did to the companions of the elephant what He did, so that the Arabs would increase in awe and reverence for them, and this would increase their honor due to what they saw of Allah's honoring of them. Thus, they would have the utmost ability in their journey. And the journey, with the broken form, is the state of traveling, and it was read with the damma, which is the direction to which they travel. And they were excused for that because their land has no crops [nor livestock]. So when they struck the land, they would say: We are the inhabitants of the Sacred Sanctuary of Allah and the guardians of His House, so no one should be exposed to harm. If it were not for the two journeys, they would not have a standing in Mecca, and if it were not for the security near the House, they would not be able to act. The first one who legislated for them the journey was Hashim ibn Abd Manaf. And they would divide their profits between the rich and the poor until their poor were like their rich. In this, the poet says:

Say to the one who sought generosity and kindness, Did you not pass by the family of Abd Manaf?

The generous ones, and there is no one generous, And those who say, 'Come for hospitality.'

And those who mix their poor with their rich, Until their poor are like the rich.

Those who speak with every truthful promise, And those who travel with the journey of security.

Amr al-Ula Hashim prepared the thareed for his people, And the men of Mecca are lean and emaciated.

Two journeys he legislated for him and his people, The journey of winter and the journey of summer.

And Hashim's brothers followed him in that. Hashim would travel to the Levant, and Abd Shams to Abyssinia, and al-Muttalib to Yemen, and Nawfal to Persia.
