He thinks, due to his lack of understanding, that his wealth, meaning that which he has counted, has made him eternal. He loves that wealth as one loves eternity. It is permissible that this is a metaphor indicating that his actions, by being engrossed in sins and turning away from Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, and indulging in fleeting desires, are the actions of one who believes he will not die. It is also permissible that this is a new statement, and in it is an implication that eternity is only attained through righteous and beneficial deeds in the Hereafter.
