Commentary

And when this is a warning against excessive competition, as it necessitates turning away from the Hereafter, which leads to being engulfed in the great calamities, He emphasized it by saying, using a word that indicates delay: ﴿Then you will surely see it﴾. By the might of Allah, and the elevation of knowledge above the rank of the first, He said: ﴿The Eye of Certainty﴾, meaning the vision that is the essence of certainty. This is the witnessing with the utmost clarity of knowledge, as there is no doubt in it. For indeed, witnessing is the highest form of knowledge. Al-Razi said: [And] it is sufficient by being direct rather than by inference, and by the report through witnessing. The witnesses have torn through the veil of knowledge. It has ended. And it is permissible that this second [form] is through touch and entry. The believer is admitted, while the disbeliever is eternally excluded.
