And when it was from that which the description of its great horrors and severe earthquakes escapes, the matter in it was summarized, and he said, denying that there could be a created being who knows its description: "And what can make you know?" That is, what thing has informed you, even if your effort is great? "What is it?" That is, the Abyss, because no one has witnessed anything like it to compare it to. The letter of pause is an indication that mentioning it is from that which constricts the heart, so that it cannot continue in speech, or that it is from that which the listener should strike his hearing with this inquiry about it, so he remains silent to hear the answer and understand it, to the utmost of silence, and he listens to the utmost of listening.
