And when wealth is transient, it is not appropriate for a wise person to attach his hope to it, let alone prefer it over what is everlasting. He alerted him to this with a profound warning, saying, causing astonishment by that, making him aware of what his matter will lead to: "Does he not know" meaning this person who has forgotten his own self.

And when love is a matter of the heart, which only the unseen can perceive, and resurrection is from the realm of the unseen, and it is an inevitable matter, and the frightening aspect of it is absolute in its existence, there was no need to specify the doer. So he based his saying for the acted upon, warning that He is capable of revealing the hidden matters, linking it to what he will be judged upon, that Allah will hold him accountable and recompense him for his deeds, and that wealth or anything else will not benefit him, and nothing will save him except what is from his deeds that is in accordance with the command of his Lord, based on the foundation of faith and performed with sincerity: "When the earth is shaken" meaning it is stirred with utmost ease and brought forth and scattered and examined with utmost ease.

And when the dead before resurrection are lifeless, he expressed this with a tool of what does not have understanding, saying: "What is in the graves" meaning he brought forth what is in them from the dead whom the Arabs denied their resurrection, so they were spread for reckoning, or from their bones and flesh and nerves and skins and all their bodies, and the hearts of some of them upon others until everything was returned to what it was, then the soul was returned to them, so each one was as he died.
