And when what has passed of these verses and what was of its kind is decisive that the verses do not avail them. This is made clear by His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, those upon whom the word of your Lord has come into effect" [Hud: 119], meaning: it has become obligatory and established upon them, that they are wretched. He expressed this with a name that implies kindness, informing that nothing has made the punishment obligatory upon them except the kindness shown to them by what they endure from their treatment and other than that from wisdom. So He said: "The word of your Lord" [Hud: 119], meaning: the One who is kind to you in all your affairs. "They do not believe" means: there is no acceptance for them for the renewal of faith, "even if every sign came to them". And its relation to His saying: "Indeed, the truth has come to you" [Yunus: 94] is like the relation of "Indeed, the truth has come to you" [Yunus: 94] to "So if you are in doubt" [Yunus: 94] in the verse. In the clarification derived from the omission of the conjunction, and if the speech is in one meaning, it is as if it is one word. Thus it is called: "Until they see the painful punishment" meaning: at a time when faith will not benefit them due to the loss of its condition, just as it did not benefit Pharaoh for that. "This is the way of Allah with those who have passed on before, and you will never find in the way of Allah any change" [Al-Ahzab: 62].
