Commentary
And when he was forbidden from that, nothing remained of what the rational division necessitated except for the stubbornness of those from whom it is possible, as the Children of Israel did after the arrival of knowledge. So he followed it with the prohibition against resembling their state by His saying: ﴿And do not be﴾ meaning: in any way. The intended meaning of this is to follow ﴿of those who denied﴾ meaning: they acted like the deniers, being contemptuous ﴿of the signs of Allah﴾ meaning: which there is nothing greater than it when added to the One who is greater than anything. ﴿So it will be﴾ meaning: a firm existence ﴿of the losers﴾. Rather, remain steadfast on what you are upon of certainty, tranquility, trust in Allah, and peace. This and similar expressions are a strong indication of the increased closeness of the addressed one [even if the intended meaning is different] and the great status and subtle specificity as previously explained by Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Harali, may Allah have mercy on him, in Surah al-Bara'ah at His saying: ﴿Allah has forgiven you﴾ [At-Tawbah: 43] - the verse. And the severity of the expression in it is a great admonition for its followers; and doubt: is the standing between two opposites, and it is from the doubt of the wood in what penetrates it, as it stands with that doubt between its two directions; and the descent: is the transfer of something from high to low; and the doubt: is the seeking of uncertainty while the evidence is apparent, from the milking of the udder which is its rubbing to let it flow.
