Commentary
And when this division ended in both state and outcome, He, glorified and exalted is He, followed it with the other division by saying, confirming the denial of the disbelievers of their guidance: ﴿Indeed, those who have believed﴾, meaning they have established this description with what they possess of the theoretical power, the perfection of which is the knowledge of things, and its authority is the knowledge of Allah, the Exalted: ﴿and they did righteous deeds﴾, meaning they affirmed their claim of faith by performing ﴿righteous deeds﴾ with the practical power, the authority of which is the servitude to Allah, the Exalted. And the righteous is that which the prophets, peace be upon them, urged towards. ﴿He guides them﴾, meaning to the path of renewal and continuity. ﴿Their Lord﴾, meaning the Benefactor towards them, ﴿by their faith﴾, meaning because of their affirmation and submission to the knowledge of the signs which those who hope for permanence and do not expect to meet have neglected. This led them to the Abode of Peace. This is as many of the companions, may Allah be pleased with them, after their Islam, would greatly marvel at what had caused their delay from Islam. And as you see, you may become angry with some of the eloquent, so that the inclination of the self does not allow you to see any good in them. Then you may become pleased with them and see them entirely as good.
And when he mentioned that the outcome of the first division is the Fire, he mentioned the outcome of this division in response to the question of one who says: What will their guidance inherit them? It was said to him: ﴿It flows﴾ and he pointed to the proximity of the attainment of waters and their revelation of all that is beneficial in other than that by establishing the context, so he said: ﴿from beneath them﴾, meaning beneath their chambers and beds and other than that from their desires, as in His saying, the Exalted: ﴿Indeed, your Lord has made beneath you a river﴾ [Maryam: 24]. Likewise is the saying of Pharaoh: ﴿And these rivers flow beneath me﴾ [Az-Zukhruf: 51]. ﴿The rivers﴾ are existing ﴿in the Gardens of Bliss﴾ [meaning those in which there is none other than it].
