Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed about the supplication of him, peace be upon him, He informed by His response with His saying, beginning: ﴿He said﴾. And when the [place] was the location of expectation for the response, He opened it with His letter and said: ﴿Your supplication has been answered﴾. And the passive construction is more indicative of ability and more impactful in the soul regarding the indication of the doer by inference. And He mentioned for the information that Harun, peace be upon him, is with Musa, peace be upon him, in this supplication. For he is with him like a single entity, and there is no disagreement about it at all, even if he is absent. And that is like when the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, pledged allegiance on behalf of Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, during the Umrah of Hudaybiyyah, and he struck with one of his hands upon the other while he was absent in the need of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him. And likewise, he struck for him in the Battle of Badr with his arrow and his reward while he was absent.
And when obedience and waiting for relief, even if its duration is long, are the greatest causes of response, He caused that by His saying: ﴿So be steadfast﴾. That is, remain firm in worship, humility, and submission to your Lord, just as Nuh, peace be upon him, remained steadfast in that for a very long time, and his harm intensified, yet he did not become weary. And when patience is severe, He affirmed His saying: ﴿And do not follow﴾ with haste or delay in gratitude ﴿the way of those who do not know﴾.
