Commentary
And when they responded to him by manifesting reliance upon Him, glorified and exalted is He, and they entrusted the matters to Him, He followed it up with that which increases their tranquility from the settlement in the land of the enemy, indicating their disregard for it. It has been narrated that they had places of worship in which they would gather. When Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, was sent, Fir'aun destroyed them. So Allah, the Most High, commanded that they be made in their homes so that the disbelievers would not gain knowledge of them. So He, the Most High, said, following His saying: "And Musa said" [Yunus: 84] "And We revealed" meaning: with that which is from Our supreme greatness "to Musa and his brother" meaning: the one who sought his support and opposition "to take for your people in Egypt" which is the area between the sea to the furthest Aswan and Alexandria from it "houses" that would be for them a place of return to which they would return and find refuge. "And make" [meaning] you two and those with you from your people "your houses a qiblah" meaning: a place of prayer so that you may worship in them while concealed from the enemies, reducing the causes of conflict. "And establish the prayer" meaning: with all of its limits and pillars, concealing from those who harm you, combining the two means of victory: patience and prayer, and training on the religion and affirming it in the heart.
And when the gathering in what has preceded was greater, more precious, and more significant, and it was obligatory upon the nation as it is obligatory upon the imam to gather in it, and the ascription of the glad tidings from the king to the possessor of the Shari'ah affirmed his matter, manifested his greatness, and established it in the hearts of his companions and brought joy to their eyes, he singled out in his saying: "And give glad tidings to the believers" (p-179) meaning: those firmly rooted in faith from your brother and others.
