Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed of their arrogance, He clarified that their slander against His miracles resulted from a lack of contemplation. Rather, it was with utmost haste and urgency, as indicated by the conjunction and the context. So He, the Exalted, said: "So when the truth came to them," meaning: Pharaoh and his people, "the truth," meaning the ultimate in truthfulness. Then He emphasized its greatness by saying: "from Us," meaning: regarding the greatness that they recognized as being from Us, not from the two messengers. They said, meaning: without contemplating it or considering its matter, but rather in defiance and as a demonstration of their arrogance, confirming what they knew of the people's belief in it: "Indeed, this is clear magic," as the people said whom He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned at the beginning of this surah in this Qur'an and what He clarified about resurrection.
