Then He established, glorified and exalted is He, His exclusivity with something that encompasses knowledge and power. This is to affirm His exclusivity with might and His uniqueness in oneness. And whoever associates partners with Him is a liar with no knowledge of it, due to the abundance of evidence for His oneness and its clarity. He said: ﴿He is﴾ meaning: alone ﴿the One who made﴾ meaning: due to the rotation of the celestial bodies, which He perfected ﴿for you﴾ meaning: a blessing from Him ﴿the night﴾ meaning: dark ﴿so that you may find rest in it﴾ as comfort for you and a sign of His power, glorified and exalted is He, over creation and annihilation, and a source of solace for those who love their Lord. ﴿And the day﴾ and He attributed the cause to the effect, saying: ﴿illuminating﴾ meaning: so that you may spread out in it. He omitted the description of the night and mentioned its reason, contrary to what He did with the day, to indicate what was established by what was omitted. Thus, the verse is an example of interlocking meanings.

And since these verses are evident to the extent that there is no need for more than hearing them, He said: ﴿Indeed, in that﴾ meaning: in this great matter ﴿are signs for a people﴾ meaning: for them is the strength of striving for what they desire ﴿who listen﴾ meaning: for them is sound hearing. In that, there are clear proofs that He is exclusive with might, so there is no partner for Him. For a partner must share with his partner something of actions, states, or ownership. As for when all of that is absent, the absence of partnership is clearer than needing evidence for it. It may be that the meaning is: signs for a people who see with sight of reflection and hear with hearing of contemplation and remembrance. However, He omitted “who see” due to the indication of ﴿illuminating﴾ upon it. This adds clarity and beauty, as the context negates partners. It indicates that they neither hear nor see at all, so how about reflection and consideration? Those who worship them are in a more complete state than them.
