Commentary
And when there had passed from the evidence of the resurrection what made it like the sun, and their fabrication had been established by their inability to have a basis by the permission of Allah for that, he said, indicating that the Day of Resurrection is something that is known and it is not permissible to deny it: ﴿And what do those who fabricate﴾ meaning: they deliberately ﴿against Allah﴾ meaning: the Greatest King ﴿lies﴾ meaning: that it will descend upon them ﴿on the Day of Resurrection﴾ meaning: Suppose that you did not feel shy of Him and did not fear the consequences in this world, what do you think will happen on that day? Do you think that He will not hold you accountable, and at that time He will have done what a Lord does not do with His servant?
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, deals with them with forbearance while they persist in this disobedience, He said: ﴿Indeed, Allah﴾ meaning: He who has all perfection ﴿is indeed the Possessor of great favor﴾ meaning: upon the people ﴿with blessings﴾ among them is the sending down of the Books, detailed in it what He is pleased with and what He is displeased with, and sending the messengers, blessings and peace be upon them, to clarify it in a way that the minds of creation can bear, and among them is the length of His delaying them for their evil deeds, so their gratitude is obligatory upon them. ﴿But most of them﴾ meaning: the people, due to the disturbance of their consciences ﴿do not give thanks﴾ meaning: no gratitude is renewed from them, for they do not follow His messengers or His Books, so they stumble about blindly, doing what angers Him, glorified and exalted is He; and prohibition is the binding of the meaning of the prohibition of action; and permissibility is the loosening of the meaning of prohibition with permission; and gratitude is a right that is obligatory with the blessing from acknowledgment of it and acting according to what it calls for to the extent of it; and fabricating lies is its falsification and embellishment, and it is more heinous than mere lying.
