Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, indicated the evidence of the world's perishability by its change and the ability to resurrect by creating each of the two colors after its annihilation in His saying - confirming it for their denial that there could be evidence in that: ﴿Indeed, in the alternation of night﴾ meaning regarding the difference in its characteristics ﴿and day﴾ meaning likewise ﴿and what﴾ meaning and in what ﴿Allah has created﴾ meaning that which has complete encompassing ﴿in the heavens and the earth﴾ of the states of clouds and rains and what occurs from that such as landslides, earthquakes, minerals, plants, animals, and other states of the whole that humanity cannot encompass in its enumeration; when He indicated that, He concluded it with His saying: ﴿are signs﴾ meaning very clear indications ﴿for a people who are conscious﴾ meaning that whoever reflects on this alternation and contemplates the change of the great celestial bodies is deserving of fearing that his conditions may change and his affairs may become tumultuous, so he should be conscious of Allah, knowing certainly that the people of this abode are not neglected, for they must have commands and prohibitions, rewards and punishments; and the alternation: the departure of each of the two things in a direction other than the other. So the alternation of the two colors: the departure of this in the direction of light and that in the direction of darkness; and the night: darkness from the setting of the sun to the rising of the second dawn, it is the plural of night like dates and a date; and the day: the expansion of light from the rising of the second dawn to the setting of the sun; and creation: the action of something according to what wisdom necessitates, and its origin is estimation; and He indicated by what He created in the heavens and the earth to the aspects of indications; for the indication in something may be from the aspect of its creation or the difference in its form or the beauty of its appearance or the abundance of its benefit or the greatness of its matter or otherwise.
