Commentary
And when it became established that there is nothing outside of His dominion, and that He is fully capable because there is no one to save from His punishment, encompassing in knowledge of His decree with justice, truthful in promise because there is no one to carry it to others, and it is confirmed that He is unique in that He gives life and causes death; it is established that He is capable of resurrection just as He was capable of initiation. So it is established that the return is only to Him, and He alerted to that by His saying: ﴿He﴾ meaning: only He ﴿gives life﴾ meaning: as you all acknowledge ﴿and causes death﴾ as you all witness ﴿and to Him﴾ meaning: not to others ﴿you will be returned﴾ because He promised that in His saying: ﴿To Him will be your return all together; this is a true promise from Allah﴾ [Yunus: 4] and in His saying: ﴿So to Us will be their return﴾ [Yunus: 46] and in His saying: ﴿Indeed, by My Lord, it is the truth﴾ [Yunus: 53] and others besides that, and there is no barrier to Him from it; and life is a meaning that necessitates the correctness of knowledge and capability and opposes death. It encompasses all parts of the living being, so it is with all of it that it is one living entity. The living being is one who is valid to be capable, and the capable one is one who is valid to be blamed or praised for what he has done, and death is a meaning that opposes life in the animal structure, and it is not like that of the inanimate.
