Commentary
And when the news of the truthful about the destruction of the enemies is a confirmation for the eye, and witnessing their destruction is more confirming for it, it is turned to His saying: ﴿Certainly, they have lost﴾ [Yunus: 45] ﴿And if We show you﴾ meaning: a great showing before your death ﴿some of what We promise them﴾ meaning: in this world with what We have of greatness, it is more confirming for your eye ﴿or We take you﴾ before that ﴿then to Us is their return﴾ and We will show you there what is more confirming for your eye and more pleasing for your heart. The verse is from the type of implication: it first mentioned the showing as evidence for its second omission, and the taking as evidence for its first omission; and 'then' in His saying: ﴿Then Allah﴾ meaning: the All-Encompassing of everything ﴿is a Witness﴾ meaning: one who witnesses fully ﴿over what they do﴾ in both abodes - it can be on the threshold of it, and it indicates the delay between the beginning of their return by death and its end by resurrection. The intended meaning of His saying: ﴿is a Witness﴾ is not its apparent meaning, but rather the punishment resulting from the witnessing in the Hereafter, until Allah punishes them after their return, and He shows you what comes after them because He is All-Knowing of what they do.
