And when they were deserving at their affirmation of this verse and their acknowledgment of its content by saying: We have submitted, so we have become Muslims, and we will never be diverted from the truth, they did not say it. They were truly deserving to be told: The word of Allah has become binding upon you for your wickedness and your deviation from the truth. It was said: Were they specifically addressed by that? It was said: No, rather ﴿like that﴾ meaning: similar to that great right ﴿the word of your Lord has become binding﴾ meaning: the One who is good to you by destroying your enemies: the single, definitive word in which there is no hesitation. The meaning of the plural in the reading of Nafi' and Ibn 'Amir is that none of His words contradicts the word that necessitated their punishment, rather all of them agree with it, so the intended meaning is one. Or it could be that this is a metaphor indicating that their punishment is everlasting, for indeed His words do not apply ﴿to﴾ all ﴿those who﴾ have done their deed because they ﴿have committed wickedness﴾ meaning: they have abandoned the command of Allah and have engaged in disobedience and have deviated from the path of truth and] deviated from the circle of righteousness, [which is their being a single nation to the religion of their father Adam, the chosen one of Allah, peace be upon him]; (p-115) then he explained that right by saying: ﴿that they do not believe﴾ meaning: no faith is renewed from them at all, [and he expressed by wickedness what is meant by disbelief because the context is about deviating from the circle of the true religion in His saying: ﴿And mankind was but one nation, then they differed﴾ [Yunus: 19] and this meaning is more appropriate for expressing wickedness, the essence of which is deviation from a boundary in their saying: the date has deviated from its skin - meaning it has exited], or the meaning could be: the Lordship has become binding upon Him, glorified and exalted is He, by this night, and it is the act of these matters concluded with the management necessitating His oneness [glorified and exalted is He] certainly, for if He were capable of being equal to Him in His decree, it would be possible for Him to oppose Him, and it would be invalid for Him to be capable. And it is true that whoever deviates from the truth is in misguidance, just as it is true that ﴿like that has become true﴾ [meaning it has been established with great firmness] ﴿the word of your Lord upon﴾ all ﴿those who﴾ have been decreed with their wickedness among them. [And] ﴿that they do not believe﴾ is an explanation of His word that has become binding; and provision is: making the flowing gift.
