Commentary

Then he explained the denial of their lack of piety by his saying: ﴿So that is﴾ meaning the One of great status, ﴿Allah﴾ meaning the One who has majesty and honor. Thus, this is His power and His actions ﴿Your Lord﴾ meaning the One who brought you into existence, the One who manages your affairs, who has no kindness with anyone other than Him. ﴿The truth﴾ meaning His lordship is established with certainty, without doubt, [due to the gathering of past attributes for Him, not for anyone else, because true lordship cannot exist for one who does not possess those attributes]. "So what" meaning: it resulted from that that it should be said to you: what is "after the truth" meaning that which has the most complete establishment ﴿except misguidance﴾ for there is no intermediary between them - as indicated by the omission of the preposition, and no rational person would turn from the truth to misguidance. So how are you turned away from the truth to misguidance? And for this reason, it resulted in his saying: ﴿So how﴾ meaning: from what direction ﴿are you turned away﴾ [meaning] you from any turner, no matter what it is, from the truth to misguidance.
