And when he informed about the state of the polytheists, the soul longed to know the state of others. So he said, beginning anew and informing about both groups: "There," meaning: in that position of the great place and time of the overwhelming horrors that follow one another, "it will test," meaning: it will inform and mix with a mixing that inclines and transforms, "every soul," whether obedient or disobedient, "of what it has sent forth," meaning: what it has presented of deeds, so it will know whether it was good or evil and whether it led to happiness or misery.

And when the absolute return - which is the turning of something to the place from which it began - is sufficient in the awe for one who has understanding, his saying was built for the passive: "And they will be returned," meaning: by resurrection to life as they were at first, "to Allah," meaning: the Greatest King, "their true protector." So they had no ability to turn to anyone other than Him nor to pay attention to anything else from those falsehoods. Rather, their hope was cut off from everything they used to call upon in this world, which is what is meant by his saying: "And what they used to invoke has failed them," meaning: it has become invalid, gone, and lost, "what they had," meaning: existence that is innate to them, "they were fabricating," meaning: they were deliberately lying that their deities were partners. And they were certain in that position that their turning to other than Allah was false and not true; and the separation is a division by which each one is removed from its place, and it is from the separation of corpses, and it is not from the wawiyy, but from the ya'iyy. It is said: I removed him from the thing when you separated between him and it; and the sufficiency is reaching the measure of need in repelling harm or obtaining benefit; and the sending forth is the presenting of a matter for what follows it; and the return is the going to the thing after having gone away from it, like returning; and the protector is one who has authority over the affairs of his protector.
