And when what they used to plot against him in their slander was completed, he followed it with his excuse, blessings and peace be upon him, in conveying it in a way that certainly indicates that it is the words of Allah and that he recited it only by His permission. Thus, he uproots their slander from its origin and removes it entirely. He said: "Say" to them, teaching that He, glorified and exalted is He, either wills the action or wills its absence, and there is no state of silence at all. "If Allah had willed" means the One who possesses all greatness, that I do not recite it to you. "What I have recited to you" means I have continued my reading of it to you. "Nor do I inform you" means I have informed you in the manner of addressing it, He, glorified and exalted is He, "by it" through my tongue. And when the mention of that was made, he followed it with the reason that identifies it, saying: "Indeed, I have remained among you a lifetime." And since his lifetime did not encompass the time before, he said: "From before it" a duration of forty years without one of the two matters being willed by Allah at that time. Then I came to you with this decisive book, which includes the truths of the science of fundamentals, the subtleties of the science of branches, the nuances of the science of ethics, and the secrets of the stories of the ancients in a statement that you have failed - while you are the most eloquent of people and the most articulate - to oppose one verse of it. Thus, with this certain and apparent knowledge, it has become clear that it is from Allah. Therefore, it caused the denial of reason, so he said: "Do you not understand?" indicating that it suffices - in knowing that the Qur'an is from Allah and that others are incapable of it - that the observer of its matter and my matter is from the people of reason. That is, should you not have reason so that you may know the truth of the Qur'an by what He has guided you to in this verse from this apparent proof and overwhelming authority, which establishes that it is not permissible for me in any way to change it on my own, for I am like you, and you have known that you are incapable of that despite the pretense. So I alone - despite being unlettered - am unable, and that He, exalted is He, if He had willed, you would not have received it, and that I have remained among you for a long time bringing it to you without reciting anything to you nor claiming knowledge among you nor resorting to a scholar. And you know that whoever says what you have said is a denier of the verses of Allah, and whoever acts upon what you have requested is a liar against Allah, and each of these is the greatest of injustices. "So who" means: it is a reason to say: who "is more unjust than one who fabricates" means: intentionally "against Allah" means the One who possesses all greatness "a lie" means: any lie that may be. And the original was: from me, on the assumption that this Qur'an is not from Allah as you claimed, but he placed this apparent one in its place, generalizing and linking the ruling by the description "or has denied His verses" as you have done, and that is among the greatest lies.
And when the decree was: No one is more unjust than him, for he will not succeed because he is a criminal, he explained it by saying, confirming for the sake of their denial: "Indeed, he will not succeed," meaning: in any way. The criminals have been clarified. The intended meaning is the denial of falsehood from himself, blessings and peace be upon him, and the attachment of the warning where they denied the signs after it was established that they are from Allah, and the notification that no one is more unjust than them; because they lied about Allah in everything they attribute to Him that which He has forbidden and they denied His signs. The coming of the other may occur while the first exists, and the replacement can only be by removing the first and placing another in its place. And the 'tilqaa' (the opposite side) is the direction of facing something, he followed it by coming after it. And the will specifically can be a cause leading to the occurrence of something, and it is arranged for it in a way that its opposite may occur. The intention is similar to it. And the intellect is the innate knowledge by which one can infer from the witness to the unseen. And it is permissible that "and they worship" [Yunus: 18] is a state of "those who do not hope for Our meeting" [Yunus: 15], meaning: they said that while worshiping "other than Allah" [Yunus: 18], meaning the Most High King who possesses all the attributes of perfection, which they have established that this Qur'an is His speech due to their inability to oppose anything of it, while it forbids them from worshiping others, and they know His ability to harm and benefit.
