And when the commands and prohibitions and answers became numerous in this surah due to what they propose out of obstinacy, and it concluded by stating that whoever calls upon others is firmly rooted in injustice, with no one to save him from it, it concluded that with an informing answer that the benefit of obedience is not directed except to them, and the harm of aversion is not returned except to them. So Allah, the Most High, said: "Say, O mankind," meaning: the ultimate of everyone who has the capacity for movement and disturbance. "Indeed, the truth has come to you" meaning: the complete truth with this Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, and this Book. And that is a great good that Allah has bestowed upon you, and He increased the desire for it by saying: "from your Lord" meaning: the One who is gracious to you. "So whoever" meaning: it is caused by that, that whoever "is guided" meaning: believes in Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, and acts according to what is in the Book, "then he is only guiding himself" [meaning] because he followed the established truth and left the fleeting falsehood, thus saving himself from the Fire and ensuring for himself Paradise. "And whoever goes astray" meaning: disbelieves in both of them or in something of them, "then he only goes astray against it" because he left the everlasting and clung to that which he has no possession of, as it is transient, and he has deceived himself. "And I am not" and when the context is for denying his involvement with them, and that this is only to Allah, the Most High, it was more important to present their pronoun, so he said: "You have a guardian" and he requests from me to protect you from what leads to destruction and to prevent it from you, just as is requested from a guardian.
