Commentary
Meccan, and its verses are 11. "It was revealed after dawn" In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
What is meant by 'al-duha' is the time of al-duha, which is the beginning of the day until the sun rises and casts its rays. It is said:
The time of al-duha is specifically mentioned in the oath because it is the hour when Musa, peace be upon him, spoke, and when the magicians fell prostrate, due to His saying, "And that the people be gathered at al-duha." It is said that what is meant by al-duha is the day, as clarified by His saying, "Our punishment comes to them at al-duha" in contrast to "at night."
'Sajaa' means the darkness settled and became still. It is said: a quiet night with still winds. It is also said to mean the stillness of people and sounds in it. And 'saja' the sea means its waves became calm.
And 'saj' means still and relaxed. "What has cut you off" is the response to the oath. Its meaning is: what has separated you like the farewell of one who departs.
And it was read with the lightening, meaning: what has left you. He said: "And then we bid farewell to the family of Amr and Amir... the prey of the edges of the sharpened spears." [[Then it refers to the place or time of war, and there is a difference regarding 'da'a' meaning leave, whether it inflects and thus brings forth the past, the source, the active participle, and the passive participle. Al-Jawhari said: 'Amita' is its past and others, and it may come in necessity, and this is well-known, but since it has come in the Qur'an, "What has left you" with lightening. And in the hadith, "Let a people refrain from leaving their congregations," meaning leaving them.
And the name of the passive participle and others have come in poetry, it is permissible to say it is rarely used, not that it is dead, as some of the early scholars said. And 'al-fara'is' is the second object, and it is the plural of 'fariisa': which is the prey of the predatory lion. And 'al-muthaqafa' means the one equipped with the spear, which is the tool for straightening spears.
And 'al-sumra' is a color between white and brown. And the spears are compared to black in a metaphorical manner, and the prey is an imaginative representation, and the closest is the comparison of the families of Amr and Amir to the prey in a profound metaphor for mentioning the edges, unless it is said: it is a stripping of the metaphor, as it suits the spears.]]
And 'al-tawdi' is an exaggeration in farewell, because one who bids you farewell while departing has exaggerated in leaving you. It has been narrated that the revelation was delayed from the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, for days. The polytheists said: "Indeed, your Lord has forsaken you and abandoned you." [[This was narrated by Ibn Mardawayh from the narration of Al-Aufi from Ibn Abbas regarding His saying, "What has forsaken you, your Lord, and what has abandoned you?" He said: "Gabriel delayed upon him - the hadith."]]
It is said that Umm Jamil, the wife of Abu Lahab, said to him: "O Muhammad, I do not see your devil except that he has left you." [[Agreed upon from the hadith of Jundub ibn Abdullah al-Bajali with the wording: "Then a woman came and said: O Muhammad, I hope that your devil has left you. So Allah revealed 'By the morning light.' And in Al-Mustadrak from the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam: 'The Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, remained for days without revelation. Then the wife of Abu Lahab came to him and said: O Muhammad - and he mentioned it similarly.]]
Thus, it was revealed.
The pronoun was omitted from 'qala' as it was omitted from 'dhakirat' in His saying, "And those who remember Allah much and those who remember Him." It means: and those who remember Him and similar: "So he took refuge... so he guided... so he enriched," which is a verbal abbreviation for the clarity of the omitted.
