Commentary
He slanders you, criticizing you in the distribution of the alms and attacking you. It was said: They are the ones whose hearts are to be reconciled. It was said that he is Ibn Dhul-Khuwaysirah, the leader of the Khawarij. When the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, was distributing the spoils of Hunayn, he said: "Be just, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Woe to you! If I am not just, then who will be just?" [Agreed upon from the narration of Abu Sa'id, and the wording is from al-Bukhari. And for both: "When Dhul-Khuwaysirah came..."] It was said: He is Abu al-Jawaz, one of the hypocrites, who said: "Do you not see your companion? He is only distributing your alms among the shepherds of sheep, and he claims that he is being just." The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Do you not know that Moses was a shepherd? Was not David a shepherd?" When he left, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Beware of him and his companions, for they are hypocrites." And it was recited: 'yalmizuka' with a dammah, and 'yalmizuka' and 'yalamizuka.' The emphasis and the structure based on 'mufā'alah' is an exaggeration in slandering. Then he described them as having their approval and disapproval for themselves, not for the religion and what is good for its people. For the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, had won the hearts of the people of Mecca that day by generously distributing the spoils to them, which annoyed the hypocrites. And if they were not given from it, they would be surprised by the discontent.
