Tafsir for verses: 9:20, 9:21, 9:22
20Those who believed and emigrated and carried out Jihād in the way of Allah with their wealth and lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah, and it is they who are the successful. 21Their Lord gives them the happy news of Mercy from Him, and of (His) Pleasure, and of Gardens having an everlasting bliss for them, 22where they shall dwell forever. Surely, it is Allah with whom lies a great reward.

Commentary
They are of greater rank with Allah than the people of providing water and building among you. And those are the successful ones, not you and those who are specialized in success over you. It has been recited: 'He gives them glad tidings' with both lightening and heavy pronunciation. The indefiniteness of the one giving glad tidings is due to its occurrence after the description of the describer and the definiteness of the defined. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: It is specifically about the emigrants.
