And His saying 'and they did not take' is connected to 'strived,' included in the context, as if it were said: 'And when Allah knows the strivers among you and the sincere ones who do not take a confidant besides Allah.'

And a confidant is a noun derived from 'walaja,' like 'dakhila' from 'dakhal.' The intended meaning of negating knowledge is the negation of the known, like the saying of someone: 'Allah did not know from me what was said about me,' meaning: 'That was not found from me.'
