It purifies them is a description of the charity. And it was recited: 'He purifies them,' from 'to purify' meaning 'to cleanse.' And 'He purifies them,' is in the jussive as an answer to the command. And 'And He causes them to grow' was not recited except with the affirmation of the 'ya.' And the 'ta' in 'It purifies them' is for addressing or for the feminine absent. And 'the growth' is an exaggeration in purification and an increase in it. Or it means growth and blessing in wealth. 'And invoke blessings upon them' and show them kindness by praying for them and having mercy on them. It is the Sunnah that the one who receives the charity prays for the owner of the charity when he takes it. And from Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him: I love that the ruler says when taking the charity: 'May Allah reward you for what you have given, and make it a purification, and bless you in what you have kept.' And it was recited: 'Indeed, your prayer,' in the singular. 'A tranquility for them' they find peace in it, and their hearts are assured that Allah has accepted their repentance. And Allah is All-Hearing, hearing their confession of their sins and their supplication. He is All-Knowing of what is in their hearts, and the grief from regret for what they have neglected.
