Meccan, and its verses are 25 [revealed after Al-Infitar] 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'.
The answer to the conditional is omitted so that the intended meaning may go in every direction. Or it is sufficient with what has been known in similar cases from the two surahs of At-Takwir and Al-Infitar. It is said: its answer is what is indicated by 'when the heaven is split open', meaning when the sky is split by the clouds, as Allah, the Exalted, says: 'And the Day the heaven splits open with clouds.' And from Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: it splits from the Milky Way. He is permitted to listen to it. [[Mahamud said: 'The meaning of " , " is that I listened... etc.' Ahmad said: 'The interpretation of the verse is complicated by saying: the One who is inherently capable, and what is with Him does not say: the One whose ability encompasses all beings, so that nothing exists except by His ability: it is right that He should be listened to and obeyed, thus affirming for Allah the attribute of perfection, and unifying Him in His true unification: and He is better than one who denies the attribute of perfection from Allah, the Exalted and Mighty.]] And from his saying, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Allah has not permitted anything as He has permitted for a prophet who sings the Qur'an.' [[Agreed upon, and it has been mentioned in Surah Ibrahim.]] And the saying of Jahhaf ibn Hakim: 'I permitted you when I heard your murmuring.' [[I permitted you when I heard your murmuring... so you made me hear with obscenity and immorality.]]
For Jahhaf ibn Hakim. And 'permitted' means I listened and inclined my ear to your words when I heard your voice, and it includes the meaning of 'you informed me', thus it is transitive with 'bi'. It may be that it is extra. And 'obscenity' means adultery and its consequences related to women, and 'immorality' is broader than that.
And the meaning is that it acted in its submission to Allah when He intended its splitting, like the action of one who is obedient, who when commanded by the one to whom he submits listens and yields and does not refuse or resist, as in His saying: 'We came willingly.' And 'it is right' from your saying: 'he is right for such and such', meaning: it is truly deserving to submit and not resist. Its meaning indicates that the One who is inherently capable [[The phrase 'the indication that the One who is inherently capable' is based on the Mu'tazila doctrine that He, the Exalted, is capable by His essence and not by an additional ability to His essence, and knowledgeable by His essence and not by an additional knowledge to His essence. The doctrine of Ahl al-Sunnah is that He is capable by an additional ability to His essence, knowledgeable by an additional knowledge to His essence, and so on, as in the events.]] must be able to perform every possible act, and it is right that it is extended from the extension of something, so it extends: meaning that its mountains and hills are removed, and everything in it is removed, until it extends and spreads out and its surface is leveled, as Allah, the Exalted, says: 'A flat plain wherein you will not see any crookedness or elevation.' And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them: it extended like the leather of the 'Akkaz, because when the leather is extended, every crease in it is removed and it is leveled, or from 'extended' meaning 'increased', i.e., it was made wider and more spacious.
And it cast out what is in it and discharged what is in its belly of the dead and treasures, and it became empty and cleared to the utmost emptiness until nothing remained in its interior, as if it exerted its utmost effort in being empty, just as it is said: 'the generous one is generous', and 'the merciful one is merciful': when they reach their utmost in generosity and mercy, and exert beyond what is in their nature. And it permitted its Lord to cast out what is in its belly and to empty itself." :
