Meccan, and its verses are 19 [revealed after An-Nazi'at]. 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' The heavens are split open. The earth is torn apart. The seas are burst forth, opening one into another. The sweet water mixes with the salty, and the barrier between them is removed, and the seas become one sea. It has been narrated that the earth dries the water after the seas are filled, becoming level. This is the meaning of 'tasjir' according to Al-Hasan. It is recited: 'fujirat,' with a lighter pronunciation. Mujahid recited: 'fujirat' in the form of the active voice and with lightening, meaning: it has burst forth due to the removal of the barrier, referring to His saying: 'they do not transgress' because transgression and bursting forth are brothers. 'Ba'thar' and 'baḥthar' have the same meaning, and they are composed of 'ba'th' and 'baḥth' with a 'ra' added to them. The meaning is: it stirs and brings forth its dead. It is said: for the sake of the scattered, because it has scattered the secrets of the hypocrites.
