And your companion, meaning Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, is not mad, as the disbelievers accuse him. This is enough as evidence of the greatness of the status of Gabriel, may peace be upon him, and his virtue over the angels, and the difference of his rank. The meaning of 'the difference of his rank' is that his rank is elevated above the rank of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him. This is based on the belief of the Mu'tazila regarding the preference of the angel over humans. The belief of the people of the Sunnah is the preference of the leaders of humans. Gabriel was mentioned with those attributes, and the negation of madness was limited to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, because Gabriel is unknown to them, unlike Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, whom they know. Therefore, the negation was limited to what they accused him of. The best of mankind is Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him. If you compare the two mentions when they are juxtaposed, and you weigh between His saying, 'Indeed, it is the saying of a noble Messenger, possessing strength, with the Owner of the Throne, established, obeyed there, trustworthy,' and His saying, 'And your companion is not mad.'
