Commentary
It is said: 'He was attentive to his words,' like: 'He listened to him.' So the blast is described as 'the loud blast' metaphorically, because people are attentive to it, fleeing from it due to their preoccupation with what they are driven towards, and knowing that they will not benefit from it at all. He begins with the brother, then with the parents because they are closer to him, then with the spouse and children because they are closer and more beloved. It is as if he said: 'He flees from his brother, rather from his parents, rather from his spouse and children.' And it is said: 'He flees from them out of fear of being asked about responsibilities.'
The brother says: 'You did not support me with your wealth.' The parents: 'You fell short in our kindness.' The spouse: 'You fed me what is forbidden and did this and that.' The children: 'You did not teach us nor guide us.' It is said: 'The first to flee from his brother is Habil, and from his parents: Ibrahim, and from his spouse: Nuh and Lut, and from his son: Nuh will suffice him in caring for him.'
And it is recited: 'He concerns him,' meaning it matters to him. 'Shining and radiant,' from 'the dawn breaks' when it shines. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: 'From the night prayer,' as it was narrated in the hadith: 'Whoever increases his prayer at night, his face will be made beautiful during the day.' And from Al-Dahhak: 'From the effects of ablution.' And it is said: 'From the long time spent in the path of Allah, a dust that rises with a darkness like smoke, and there is nothing more horrifying than the gathering of dust and darkness on the face, as seen on the faces of black people when they are dusty. And it is as if Allah, glorified and exalted is He, gathers the dust to the darkness of their faces, just as they gathered immorality to disbelief.
About the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Whoever recited Surah Abasa wa Tawalla will come on the Day of Resurrection with a smiling, joyful face.'
