Commentary
He warned them - by forbidding dispute and differing opinions - about what happened to them at Uhud due to their disobedience to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, from their failure and the loss of their strength, like those who left their homes, they are the people of Mecca when they left to protect the caravan. Then the messenger of Abu Sufyan came to them while they were at Al-Juhfa: "Return, for your caravan has safely passed." But Abu Jahl refused and said: "Until we reach Badr, where we will drink wine and the singers will entertain us." And we will feed those who are with us from the Arabs. This was their arrogance and their showing off to the people by feeding them. So they reached it, and they drank the cups of death instead of wine, and the mourners lamented over them instead of the singers. He forbade them to be like them, arrogant, joyful, and showing off in their deeds, and that they should be among the people of piety and sadness from the fear of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, being sincere in their deeds to Allah.
