Tafsir for verses: 8:39, 8:40
39And fight them until there is no Fitnah (mischief), and total obedience becomes for Allah. So, if they desist, then, Allah is indeed watchful over what they do. 40And if they turn away, then, rest assured that Allah is your protector. So excellent a protector is He, and so excellent a supporter.

Commentary

And fight them until there is no fitnah and until there is no shirk among them, and the religion is entirely for Allah. And every false religion will vanish from them, and only the religion of Islam will remain among them. If they cease from disbelief and embrace Islam, then indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of what they do. He rewards them for their repentance and their Islam. And it has been recited: 'ta'maloon' with the 'taa', so the meaning is: 'Indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of what you do of jihad in His cause, and calling to His religion, and bringing people from the darkness of disbelief to the light of Islam. He will reward you with the best reward.' And if they turn away and do not cease, then know that Allah is your Protector, meaning your supporter and helper, so trust in His support and assistance.
