Commentary

And he forbade the soul that commands evil from following the destructive desires, which is the pursuit of pleasures. He admonished it against that and restrained it with patience and determination to prefer good. It is said that the two verses were revealed concerning Abu Azeer ibn Umair and Mus'ab ibn Umair. Mus'ab killed his brother Abu Azeer on the Day of Uhud, and the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, protected himself until the arrows penetrated into his body.
