And eat and enjoy, a state of the disbelievers. That is, woe is established for them when it is said to them, 'Eat and enjoy.' If you say: How can it be said to them that in the Hereafter? I say: It is said to them in the Hereafter as a sign that they were in this world deserving of being told that, and they were among its people, reminding them of their despicable state and what they earned for themselves by preferring the little enjoyment over the eternal bliss and kingdom. In this manner, his saying:

'O my brothers, do not ever distance yourselves... And indeed, by Allah, they have distanced themselves.'

He means: You were deserving in your lives to be called upon with that, and he justified it by their being criminals, indicating that every criminal has nothing but eating and enjoying for a few days, then remaining in destruction forever. It is possible that 'Eat and enjoy' is a new speech addressing the disbelievers in this world, 'Bow down, humble yourselves to Allah by accepting His revelation and following His religion.' And cast aside this arrogance and pride; they do not humble themselves nor accept that, and they insist on their arrogance. It was said: Nothing was harder on the Arabs than bowing and prostrating. It was said: It was revealed regarding Thaqif when the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, commanded them to pray, and they said: 'We will not bow down,' for it is a disgrace upon us.

The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: 'There is no good in a religion that does not have bowing or prostration after the Qur'an,' meaning that the Qur'an, among the revealed books, is a clear sign and a great miracle. So when they did not believe in it, by which book after it will they believe? And it was read: 'you believe,' with the feminine pronoun.

From the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Whoever recites the Surah Al-Mursalat, it is written for him that he is not among the polytheists.'
