36Does man presume that he will be left unchecked? 37Was he not an ejaculated drop of semen? 38Then he became a clot of blood, then He created (him) and made (him) perfect, 39and made from him two kinds, male and female. 40Has He no power to give life to the dead?

Commentary

So He created and determined, then He fashioned and made just. From it, He made the two spouses, the two kinds. Is not He who initiated this creation able to bring it back? It has been narrated that when the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, recited it, he would say, 'Glorified are You, indeed.' [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: Abu Dawood: from the narration of Musa ibn Abi Aisha from a man who heard it from the Prophet ﷺ and narrated by Al-Hakim from the narration of Ismail ibn Umayyah from Abu Al-Yasa' from Abu Huraira in a similar manner. I said: The narrator of it from Ismail according to Al-Hakim is Yazid ibn Iyad, who is rejected. However, Ahmad, Abu Dawood, and Al-Tirmidhi reported it through the route of Sufyan ibn Uyainah from Ismail from a man from Abu Huraira. There are differing accounts regarding Ismail which I have mentioned in the margin of the references.] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Whoever recited Surah Al-Qiyamah, I and Jibril will testify for him on the Day of Resurrection that he was a believer in the Day of Resurrection.' [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: Narrated by Al-Thalabi, Al-Wahidi, and Ibn Mardawayh with their chains to Ubay ibn Ka'b.]
