Commentary
And those who were with him, it was said they were forty men and forty women. It was said: nine, the sons of Sam, Ham, and Yafith, and six who believed in him. If you say: what does 'in the ark' relate to? I say: it relates to 'with him', as if it were said: and those who remained with him in the ark or accompanied him in the ark. It may also relate to the action of saving, meaning We saved them in the ship from the flood, being blind of hearts, not seeing. And it was read: 'Ameen'. The difference between 'blind' and 'Ameen' is that 'blind' indicates a permanent blindness, while 'Ameen' indicates a temporary blindness. Similar to His saying: 'And your heart is constricted by it.'
