Commentary
Follow what has been revealed to you from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and do not follow other than it from besides Allah, allies. That is, do not take as allies other than Him from the devils of jinn and mankind, lest they lead you to the worship of idols, desires, and innovations, and misguide you from the religion of Allah and what has been revealed to you, and He has commanded you to follow it. Al-Hasan said: O son of Adam, you have been commanded to follow the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him. By Allah, no verse has been revealed except that He loves for you to know concerning what it was revealed and what it means. Malik ibn Dinar read: And do not seek, from seeking. And whoever seeks other than Islam as a religion. It is permissible that the pronoun in 'from besides it' refers to what has been revealed, meaning: And do not follow other than the religion of Allah, the religion of allies. You remember little, as you abandon the religion of Allah and follow other than it. And it is read: You remember, by omitting the 'ta'. And they remember, with a 'ya'. And 'little' is in the accusative, meaning you remember a little remembrance. And 'what' is an addition for the confirmation of the smallness.
