Commentary
And it is recited: 'We will gather you.' And 'We will deny.' And 'We will enter it,' with the pronoun and the noun. If you say: What is the reason for the adverb's position? I say: It is by his saying: 'You will surely be informed,' or by 'a news,' due to its meaning of warning, as if it were said: 'By Allah, He will punish you on the day He gathers you.' Or by implying 'remember' for the Day of Gathering, on the day when the first and the last will be gathered. Al-Taghabun: It is borrowed from the mutual loss of people in trade, which is that some of them deceive one another, with the fortunate descending to the abodes of the unfortunate that they would have occupied had they been fortunate, and the unfortunate descending to the abodes of the fortunate that they would have occupied had they been unfortunate. And therein is mockery of the unfortunate, for their descent is not a loss. And in the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'There is no servant who enters Paradise except that he sees his place in Hell if he had done evil, so that he may increase in gratitude. And there is no servant who enters Hell except that he sees his place in Paradise if he had done good, so that he may increase in regret.' [Narrated by al-Bukhari from the narration of Al-A'raj from Abu Huraira: And in the agreed-upon narration from the hadith of Anas in the story of the believer, it is said to him: 'Look at your place in Hell, Allah has exchanged it for you with a place in Paradise.' The Prophet of Allah said: 'He sees both of them.' And it is narrated from Ibn Umar: 'When one of you dies, his place is shown to him in the morning and in the evening - the hadith.'] And the meaning of that is: 'The Day of Taghabun' - and people may deceive one another on other than that day - is to signify its greatness, and that their mutual loss is the true loss, not the loss in worldly matters, no matter how great and significant. Righteous is an attribute of the source, meaning: a righteous deed.
