يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعۡنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشۡرِكۡنَ بِٱللَّهِ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَسۡرِقۡنَ وَلَا يَزۡنِينَ وَلَا يَقۡتُلۡنَ أَوۡلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأۡتِينَ بِبُهۡتَٰنٖ يَفۡتَرِينَهُۥ بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِنَّ وَأَرۡجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعۡصِينَكَ فِي مَعۡرُوفٖ فَبَايِعۡهُنَّ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ ١٢ ﴿12
12O you who believe, when the believing women come to you, seeking bai’ah (a pledge of allegiance) with you that they will not ascribe any partner to Allah, and will not commit theft, and will not commit fornication,and will not kill their children, and will not come up with a false claim (about the parentage of a child) that they falsely attribute (to the sperm of their husbands being dropped) between their hands and their feet (i.e. their private parts), and will not disobey you in what is recognized (in Sharī‘ah), then take them in your bai’ah, and pray Allah for their forgiveness. And they should not kill their children. It has been recited: 'yaktulna' with emphasis, meaning: burying the daughters. In another narration: 'No woman among them has ever committed adultery.' The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 'And do not kill their children.' She said: 'We raised them as children and you killed them as adults, and you know better than them.' Her son, Hanzalah ibn Abu Sufyan, had been killed on the day of Badr, and Umar laughed until he fell down, and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, smiled and said: 'And do not bring forth a falsehood.' She said: 'By Allah, falsehood is indeed a disgraceful matter, and you command us only with righteousness and noble morals.' He said: 'And they should not disobey you in what is good.' She said: 'By Allah, we did not sit in this gathering with the intention of disobeying you in anything.'
