Commentary
Alone, separate from your wealth and your children and what you have strived for and preferred from your worldly life, and from your idols which you claimed are your intercessors and partners with Allah. Just as We created you the first time in the form you were born upon in separation, and you left what We granted you, what We favored you with in this world, so you became preoccupied with it from the Hereafter behind your backs. It did not benefit you, and you could not bear even a small amount of it, nor did you present it for yourselves. You have partners in your servitude, for when they called them gods and worshipped them, they made them partners with Allah in them and in their servitude.
And it was read: 'furada', with tanween. And 'faraad', like 'thalath'. And 'fardiy', like 'sakray'. If you say: 'as We created you', in what position is it? I say: in the accusative position as an adjective for the source you came to us, meaning a coming like 'We created you'. The severance occurred between you, just as you say: 'He brought together two things', meaning He caused the gathering between them by attributing the action to its source with this interpretation. And whoever raised it has attributed the action to the place, just as you say: 'Fighting occurred behind you and in front of you.' And in the reading of Abdullah: 'Indeed, what is between you has been severed.'
